After recently selling all of my digital photography equipment, I upgraded my iphone to an iphone 15 pro max 1tb. I have decided to use this as my digital camera (along with my investment in a Panasonic HC-vx981 camcorder) and go all in on film photography. So I have been learning how to take photos on this wonderful new phone. Today's post was a picture I took yesterday at nearly sunset from a beach near my house.

Another Camcorder Photo
Here is another photo taken with my camcorder (Panasonic HC-VX981) Very please with it. Of course this was another shot taken into the early morning sun. Any camera would struggle with that type of contrast situation.

Camcorder Photo
Yesterday I went for a long walk. The goal was to get three more pictures on the film camera to complete the roll of film I had loaded the day before. It was really too bright a day for the ASA 400 film that I had in the camera. Especially shooting down by the water. I guess I will see the results when I develop the film today. I also got to experiment with a red filter. The other goal for the day was to use the camcorder to take photos instead of video. I was quite surprised by the result especially because the form factor of the camcorder makes it hard to see the monitor in the glare and hard to hold steady while pressing the shutter release. It records in jpg format and claims to be a 4k image. I kind of like the dreamy quality of the result. Because I couldn't see the monitor, shooting into the sun, I wasn't sure I was going to even get a usable image. Again I was surprised at the results produced by an 7 year old camera. The sunburst was an added treat.

Gear 360 Again
For today's post on IG I used another photo I took yesterday on my Samsung Gear 360. I chose a wide angle frame from the stitched together 360 image that is created by the app. The app then gives you the option to save as standard image to your photo roll. I am partial to the warped fish eye look you can achieve with this camera. Then, I ran the image through another app called Carbon (allows you to apply high quality black and white filters to images) to create the black and white image that I posted. Have also included the color version below.

Gear 360
Yesterday morning before my walk, I dug out my old, discontinued, Samsung Gear 360 and charged it up. I wanted to have some fun on my walk and take some new and interesting photos. I got this camera in I think 2017. Since then and in 2020 Samsung discontinued it and its app. The Android app that is. But oddly, the app is still available, as of the date of this post, for iPhone. Without a compatible app, there is no way to really process the video or stills. Strange that it is still supported in the Apple ecosystem and not Android given Samsung primarily develops products for the Android comunity. Back to my walk. I got some pretty interesting stills yesterday.

Another Friday
The weeks are flying by on our way into winter. Still technically autumn, we had our chilliest temps yet the other day. I awakened to lots of wind and 30F. Not an ideal day for a trip uptown on the ferry to the doctors. As I was getting on the 7:15 ferry I noticed these pigeons on roosting on the piling ladder out of the wind and grabbed this shot. They evidently knew something that I didn't-

A Return With Some New Ideas
I have been trying to take back some of my artistic license instead of giving it all away on Instagram. And I think that the way to that end lies in a move back to blogging. Don't really care much who shows up to read it, but rather want to develop a space where I can break free of some of the formatting constraints of Instagram. I have never been a fan of the square or portrait format that IG forces one to work within. I never seem to be able to present what I actually see the way I am experiencing it when I take a photo; particularly panoramic photos. I like the wide angle and vast skies that I shoot with my camera. The cropped look in IG just doesn't do justice to photographing and videoing life by the sea.
So for starters, I am going to embed my daily posts from IG and then after it, if appropriate, the way the picture was meant to be seen.
I would have much rather have posted this same picture in landscape mode; like this:
